Sana'a: A joint committee from the Presidency and Public Prosecution inspected on Saturday the conditions of prisoners and detainees at the Sana'a Governorate Prosecution detention facility, police stations under its jurisdiction, and the Central Correctional Facility in the capital.
According to Yemen News Agency, the committee, comprising presidential official Jihad Ghathaya, Sana'a Chief Prosecutor Judge Ali Al-Ansi, and several prosecution officials, reviewed prisoners' records and verified them against detention records and relevant judicial decisions. The committee also heard from detention officials about procedures taken regarding detainees and the preparation and referral of case files to the Public Prosecution.
The committee approved the release of a number of prisoners and detainees in implementation of directives issued by Ansarullah leader Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, the Supreme Political Council Chairman, and the Attorney General on the occasion of the Prophet Muhammad's birthday. The committee affirmed that its field visits would continue to identify those eligible for release in accordance with the leadership's directives, stressing the protection of rights and freedoms. It also urged those released to make use of the amnesty opportunity and return to society as law-abiding and productive members.
