Sana'a: A mass rally took place in the capital, Sana'a, on Tuesday to condemn remarks attributed to U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the holy city of Mecca and to express support for Islamic holy sites. Participants carried images of Mecca and banners expressing solidarity with Islamic sanctities, reaffirming their commitment to defending the sacred sites of Islam and supporting what they described as the causes of the Muslim nation.
According to Yemen News Agency, the crowds declared their readiness to defend Islamic holy places and oppose what they described as American and Zionist plans targeting the Muslim world and its sacred symbols. The demonstrators strongly condemned what they called repeated and deliberate offenses against the Holy Quran, Prophet Muhammad, and Islamic sanctities, including the recent remarks concerning Mecca, regarded by Muslims as their holiest site.
Crowds chanted slogans expressing support for Islamic holy sites, solidarity with Iran, Palestine, Lebanon, Gaza, and opposition to the United States and Israel. The rally called on Arab and Muslim peoples to assume responsibility in confronting what it described as systematic attacks on Islamic symbols and sanctities, warning against silence in the face of such actions.
Participants also extended greetings on the occasion of the Islamic New Year and stressed the importance of drawing lessons from the Prophet Muhammad's migration (Hijrah) in strengthening faith, resilience, and steadfastness. A statement issued during the rally said the Yemeni people had gathered in response to what it described as repeated and deliberate offenses against Islamic holy sites and symbols, most recently the remarks attributed to Trump concerning Mecca.
The statement condemned the alleged remarks as an insult to one of Islam's holiest places and reiterated rejection of what it described as repeated attacks on Islamic sanctities. It also argued that the continuation of such incidents has been encouraged by what it described as the silence and inaction of both governments and peoples across the Muslim world.
The statement congratulated Iran, Lebanon, Hezbollah, and what it called the 'Axis of Resistance' on what it described as a historic victory in recent confrontations, while stressing the importance of maintaining preparedness for future challenges. It further renewed support for Ansarullah leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi and reaffirmed solidarity with Gaza, Palestine, Lebanon, and Iran.
