Kinshasa: Doctors Without Borders (MSF) reported that the Ministry of Health in the Democratic Republic of Congo officially declared an Ebola outbreak in the northeast of the country on May 15, 2026. Since then, authorities have reported nearly 500 suspected cases and over 130 deaths across several health zones.
According to Yemen News Agency, in a post on its X platform on Friday, MSF added, "On the same day, Uganda announced that the virus had crossed into its territory."
MSF noted that "this outbreak is due to the Bundibugyo strain, a rare type of Ebola virus for which there is currently no approved vaccine or treatment."
MSF confirmed that its medical teams "continue to support the health response and contain the spread of the disease, amidst significant challenges facing the affected communities."
