Officials Assess Flood Damage in Al-Suwaidah Stream, Hayfan District

Taiz: The Deputy Governor of Taiz for Development Affairs, Abdulwasa' Al-Shamsi, inspected the extent of the damage caused by recent floods in Al-Suwaidah stream, located in the Al-Arouq area of Hayfan District. The floods affected agricultural lands and several homes.

According to Yemen News Agency, Al-Shamsi was accompanied by Agricultural Sector Head Eng. Abdullah Al-Jundi, Hayfan District Director Abdulrahman Al-Ariqi, and Agricultural Finance Unit Director Hussein Al-Rashdi. They received a detailed briefing from Hayfan Association President Fares Faisal and a group of farmers, who explained that the floods had swept away large portions of farmland and damaged side barriers, resulting in significant agricultural losses.

Al-Shamsi stated that the visit was conducted under the directives of the local authority leadership in Taiz to assess the damage and determine appropriate interventions aimed at mitigating the impact and supporting the local community in managing the aftermath.

He emphasized the importance of swift action to help local communities repair the damage to farms and homes, calling for a comprehensive assessment report to identify priority needs.

The delegation included Eyad Awahij, the local coordinator for the Bonyan Development Foundation. In a related development, Al-Shamsi also visited several proposed sites for development projects, including a dairy collection center in the Dhamna area and a leather tanning facility in Al-Rahida city, as part of broader efforts to implement sustainable development initiatives for the local population.
