Sana'a: The Speaker of Parliament, Yahya Ali Al-Ra'i, conducted a comprehensive review of the performance of several of the Parliament's permanent committees during a series of meetings he chaired today. The meetings focused on the Committees on Transport and Communications, Financial Affairs, and Development and Oil and Mineral Wealth.
According to Yemen News Agency, Speaker Al-Ra'i expressed his appreciation for the work of the committee heads, rapporteurs, and members in fulfilling their legislative and oversight responsibilities. He emphasized the importance of the permanent committees completing their assigned work, monitoring government entities' adherence to the Parliament's recommendations, and reporting back on these efforts.
During the Transport and Communications Committee meeting, the Speaker acknowledged the attendance of government representatives, including Arif Masleh, the Acting Head of the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorology, and Hashim Abdul Qader, the Director General of Planning. He assured the Council's support in assisting the Authority to overcome challenges posed by the ongoing aggression and blockade.
The Speaker directed the committee to compile a report on the Authority's past performance and current needs. The committee, led by Ismail Al-Samawi, discussed various topics, including the maintenance of facilities, the condition of aviation territories and meteorological stations, and the status of airports impacted by external aggression. The Acting Head of the Authority requested a field visit to Sana'a International Airport to assess the damage and losses.
The Speaker also led part of the Financial Affairs Committee meeting, where he reviewed the committee's oversight activities, particularly the implementation of recommendations by revenue entities such as Customs and Taxation. The committee, under Ahmed Al-Nuwaira, continued its discussions on various issues and took necessary actions.
In the Development and Oil Committee meeting, chaired by Mohammed Sawaar, the Speaker reviewed the committee's accomplishments and ongoing efforts. Topics included the performance of the Oil and Gas Company and the Geological Survey Authority, as well as the committee's findings from a field visit to Hajjah Governorate. The meeting concluded with a decision to submit a detailed report on the distribution of adulterated oil and the protective measures taken by authorities.
