Supply, Installation of 190 Solar Energy Systems Begins for Date Palm Farmers Affected in Al-Durayhimi

Al-hudaydah: The Al-Durayhimi Agricultural Cooperative Society in Al-Hudaydah province has initiated the supply and installation of 190 solar energy systems for date palm farmers affected by aggression and floods. This initiative is part of an economic empowerment project focusing on renewable energy systems.

According to Yemen News Agency, the project is funded with $545,000 from the General Authority for Zakat, in collaboration with the Small and Micro Enterprise Development Authority. The goal is to provide these systems to farmers through easy, interest-free soft loans. Jaber Kayal, the head of the society, mentioned that this batch of installations continues the first phase of the project.

Kayal noted that 95 solar systems have already begun installation, with a cost of $272,452, and efforts are ongoing to complete the remaining systems. The project's aim is to reduce agricultural production costs by transitioning entirely to solar energy, significantly cutting irrigation expenses and offering a stable source for crop irrigation. This transition is expected to enhance the resilience of Yemeni farmers and support goals of food security and self-sufficiency.

He described the project as a successful example of institutional cooperation. The Zakat Authority has provided financial backing, while the Enterprise Development Authority has offered technical and logistical guidance to ensure the sustainability and success of these initiatives.

The project is set to bolster the economic empowerment of affected farmers, stabilize the agricultural sector, and improve renewable energy efficiency. These efforts are anticipated to positively impact food security and promote sustainable agricultural development in the Al-Durayhimi district.
