Taiz: The Taiz province branch of the Yemeni Standards, Metrology and Quality Control Authority launched a field campaign to monitor markets and shops, as part of its efforts to enhance consumer protection and ensure the safety and quality of products sold in the market.
According to Yemen News Agency, branch director Riyadh al-Bukhaiti explained that the campaign is part of the Authority's seasonal Ramadan monitoring plan, given the increased volume and variety of food products offered during the holy month, and the accompanying need to intensify inspection and monitoring efforts.
He confirmed that the field teams will track food products and verify their compliance with approved standards, focusing on goods related to Ramadan consumption, primarily dates, labneh, yogurt, and frozen and chilled meats, and examining their appearance, storage conditions, and preservation.
Al-Bukhaiti described the campaign as having both regulatory and awareness-raising aspects. It will educate owners of commercial centers and shops on adhering to health and technical requirements for handling and storing food products under optimal conditions, thus contributing to maintaining product quality and protecting consumer health.
He stated that the ten-day campaign targets markets and commercial centers in the governorate's districts. He noted that the monitoring program also includes verifying the accuracy of scales and measuring and calibration tools used in sales, to guarantee consumer rights and enhance trust in commercial transactions.
The director of the Standards Authority branch commended the cooperation of merchants and shop owners, as well as the public's engagement, emphasizing that these joint efforts reflect an awareness of the importance of adhering to quality and safety standards during peak consumer seasons.
