Sana'a: A training workshop for first-grade female teachers on the updated simplified reading curriculum began on Sunday in Sana'a. The three-day workshop is organized by Al-Sabeen Educational District.
According to Yemen News Agency, at the opening session, the Minister of Education and Scientific Research, Hassan Al-Saadi, emphasized the importance of training and professional development in refining teachers' skills and enhancing their educational capabilities and teaching methods. He highlighted the need to focus on early grades and ensure that students acquire reading and writing skills through the phonics (spelling) approach in teaching Arabic. He also stressed improving correct pronunciation of letters from their proper articulation points, as well as reinforcing reading foundations to enable students to continue their education smoothly.
The educational sector official in the capital, Abdulqader Al-Mahdi, explained that the workshop targets 92 female first-grade teachers from public schools in the Al-Sabeen District. It includes several key topics, most notably reading skills, phonics methodology, handwriting, and dictation. He added that the updated simplified reading curriculum program will be implemented for first-grade teachers across public and private schools, contributing to improved quality of education in the early grades.
The opening was attended by the Director of the Al-Sabeen Educational District, Taqi Al-Din Al-Kubsi, and the Director of the Guidance Office in the district, Ahmed Al-Saraji. Meanwhile, Minister of Education and Scientific Research Hassan Al-Saadi also inspected the progress of the educational process in several schools in the capital. He reviewed the learning process on the second school day of the new academic year 1448 AH in the schools 'Ghamdan, Ala Al-Majd, and Al-Osaimi,' listening to detailed explanations from school administrators about the efforts being made to provide an appropriate learning environment for students and ensure the success of the academic year.
