Sana'a: A workshop held on Sunday in Sana'a focused on strategies to curb negative phenomena within administrative units. Organized by the Ministry of Local Administration and Rural Development, the event brought together key figures to deliberate on pressing issues affecting Yemeni society.
According to Yemen News Agency, Deputy Minister of Local Administration and Rural Development Nasser Al-Mahdhar highlighted the significance of the workshop, emphasizing the need for practical solutions to counter practices that conflict with the cultural and ethical values of the Yemeni people. Al-Mahdhar, joined by officials like Hamoud Al-Naqeeb and Ibrahim Al-Seraji, underscored the workshop's role in facilitating serious discussions on social, economic, educational, environmental, and security challenges.
The workshop's primary focus was to develop actionable outcomes, including solutions and recommendations, to be submitted to relevant authorities for the formulation of binding decisions. Participants examined various negative phenomena prevalent in administrative units, such as excessive dowries, begging, and extravagant wedding ceremonies. Concerns about the expansion of qat cultivation, tribal revenge killings, and the unsafe use of pesticides were also addressed.
The event was attended by Khalil Al-Quraishi, along with representatives from the ministry and central and local bodies. Discussions extended to the threats posed by the 'soft war' against Yemeni identity, school dropouts, and unregulated social media use. Participants also explored strategies to combat illegal logging, protect archaeological sites, and tackle issues like poverty, unemployment, and internal migration that adversely impact multiple sectors of society.
