Taiz: The Yemeni Basketball Federation will launch the Second Division General League on Wednesday evening, May 7, 2025, featuring 13 teams from across Yemen's governorates. The league follows the results of the 2023 classification tournament and will be held in two stages.
According to Yemen News Agency, the tournament structure is divided into two main stages. The first stage will feature home-and-away matches based on geographical distribution, allowing teams to compete within their regions. The second stage will be organized in Sana'a and Seiyun, adopting a group format to determine the strongest contenders. The winner from each group will earn a promotion to the First Division.
The opening match of the league will be a contest between Talaea Taiz and Shaab Ibb, set to take place at Al-Shuhada Stadium in Taiz. The matches are scheduled to continue until May 12, providing a week of competitive basketball action for fans and players alike.
Despite facing numerous challenges, the Yemeni Basketball Federation has expressed its determination to hold the league successfully. The federation aims to ensure a successful season and to identify the two teams that will be promoted to the First Division.
