Yemeni Universities Rally in Support of Gaza, Denounce Israeli Actions

General

Sana'a: In a significant demonstration of solidarity, Yemeni universities, including Sana'a University, have organized large-scale marches to support the Palestinian people and condemn the actions of the Israeli government in Gaza. These marches highlight the Yemeni academic community's commitment to opposing what they describe as genocide and starvation inflicted upon Gaza's residents.

According to Yemen News Agency, university leaders, academics, students, and administrators are actively participating in these protests. They express solidarity with Gaza, sharing in the pain of the ongoing conflict. The demonstrations aim to highlight the plight of Palestinians facing military aggression, aided by international complicity, and call for action against these injustices.

The marches are seen as an expression of the Yemeni people's consistent support for the Palestinian cause, especially at a time when other Arab governments and societies have remained passive. Participants urge Arab and Islamic communities, as well as global advocates for democracy and freedom, to oppose the violence in Gaza and support Palestinian rights.

These weekly demonstrations at Yemeni universities also emphasize the role of academic institutions in promoting justice and resisting oppression. The universities aim to inspire students worldwide to stand against the violation of Palestinian rights and to protest against the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, a prominent Yemeni leader, has commended the university activities supporting Gaza. He highlighted recent marches in various Yemeni cities, stressing the unique stance of Yemeni academia in the Islamic world and its influence in encouraging international student activism.

Globally, similar protests have emerged, despite facing government repression, as seen in the United States and Europe. Notably, student protests at Columbia University in New York led to mass arrests, reflecting a growing shift in youth attitudes toward the Palestinian issue and challenging Western government support for Israel.

These international protests have pressured several universities to reconsider ties with Israeli institutions or related companies. This development is causing concern among supporters of Israel, who have attempted to label the protests as anti-Semitic. However, protestors clarify that their actions focus on opposing Israeli policies in Palestine.

Universities continue to be pivotal in advocating for human rights and exposing violations, reinforcing their role as platforms for free expression and social change, particularly concerning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
