Sana'a: The General Authority of Zakat launched the eighth phase of its cash crop distribution project under the slogan "Food and Sufficiency," aiming to support 10,000 poor families.
According to Yemen News Agency, First Deputy Prime Minister Mohammed Miftah commended the Zakat Authority during the project's launch, which aligns with Eid al-Adha celebrations. This phase of the project is designed to meet Eid-related needs for impoverished families, providing essential items such as honey, almonds, raisins, sesame, coffee, and other crops. Miftah described the project as a bounty and blessing from Yemen, highlighting the collective efforts of farmers, producers, and Zakat Authority employees in reaching those in need.
Sheikh Miftah emphasized the importance of ensuring Zakat reaches the most needy individuals and encouraged Zakat Authority officials to rigorously verify distribution processes. Ali al-Saqqaf, Deputy Director of the Zakat Authority, acknowledged the farmers' initiative to contribute their Zakat on cash crops, adhering to a religious obligation to assist the impoverished. These contributions are voluntarily handed over to the Zakat Authority for appropriate distribution.
Al-Saqqaf explained the collaborative efforts behind the project, detailing the distribution of 10,000 baskets at a total cost of 400 million riyals, with each basket valued at 40,000 riyals. The project targets beneficiaries including poor families, people with special needs, thalassemia patients, war-affected individuals, and members of African communities. He also noted the increasing trend in in-kind Zakat contributions, attributing this to the trust Zakat payers place in the Authority's distribution capabilities.
