Amran: The Amran Water Basin Committee, led by Deputy Governor Hassan Al-Ashqas, convened to assess requests for drilling seven new wells within the district's basin area. The meeting was attended by key officials including Engineer Fahd Al-Sufyani from the Water Resources Authority branch and Kamal Al-Makhdhi from the Rural Water Projects branch, alongside district directors Abdulrahman Al-Ammad and Mohammed Habbah.
According to Yemen News Agency, the committee approved six of the well-drilling requests, while one was postponed. Discussions highlighted the necessity of adhering to legal conditions governing the basin, with proposals for partnerships also being considered. Deputy Governor Al-Ashqas underscored the importance of preventing unauthorized well drilling and deepening to protect the Amran Basin and mitigate groundwater depletion.
Al-Ashqas called for stringent enforcement of regulatory measures against those violating drilling standards, and emphasized the need to monitor well owners closely. He reiterated the prohibition of drilling without committee permits and discouraged the sale of water for irrigating qat, particularly to water tanker operators, in line with previous committee resolutions.
Engineer Al-Sufyani provided a technical overview of the well-drilling requests, covering proposed locations, compliance with legal standards, and technical observations, ensuring that all developments align with the basin's sustainability objectives.
