Coordination Meeting in Sana’a Focuses on Consumer Protection in Financial Services

Sana'a: The coordination meeting to enhance consumer protection in financial services was held today in Sana'a, organized by the Yemeni Association for Consumer Protection in partnership with the Ministry of Economy, Industry, and Investment.

According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting saw participation from representatives of regulatory, supervisory, and security bodies, as well as providers of digital financial services and electronic wallets. The objective was to enhance consumer protection, increase confidence in financial services, and develop a more stable and transparent digital environment, especially given the rapid expansion in the use of digital financial tools.

The event was attended by Deputy Ministers of Economy, Industry, and Investment, including Sami Maqbuli for the Industry Sector and Fouad Huwaidi for Foreign Trade. Brigadier General Hussein Aziz, head of the Civil Status and Civil Registry Authority, expressed the authority's readiness to cooperate with the Central Bank of Yemen in removing obstacles that financial wallets face, through mechanisms and controls that ensure consumer protection.

Fadhl Mansour, head of the Yemeni Association for Consumer Protection, highlighted the significance of the meeting in light of the fast-paced development and expansion of digital financial services via electronic wallets. He emphasized the need to address the technical and technological issues encountered by electronic wallets.

The meeting covered topics such as adopting a unified policy for identity use regulation, facilitating search and verification procedures, direct linking of payment services, communications infrastructure, service stability, and cybersecurity.
