Sana'a: A meeting held in the capital, Sana'a, brought together Mohammed Ishaq, head of the General Investment Authority, and Abbad Al-Hayal, head of the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums, to discuss joint efforts in safeguarding archaeological and heritage sites. The discussion centered on overcoming challenges that investment and development projects pose to these sites.

According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting highlighted the need for a cooperative approach between the two authorities. It was agreed that investment projects should be kept away from the geographical boundaries of archaeological sites. Furthermore, the Antiquities Authority should be included in the committees responsible for conducting environmental impact assessments to ensure that cultural heritage remains unharmed.

The participants underscored the necessity of providing the Investment Authority with an updated archaeological map. This would facilitate the inclusion of the Antiquities Authority in relevant technical committees, thus ensuring the successful execution of investment projects while preserving cultural and national heritage.

During the meeting, Mohammed Ishaq emphasized the significance of creating an investment-friendly environment that supports sustainable development. He advocated for institutional coordination and reliance on approved archaeological maps and updated data to prevent any interference with archaeological sites during the planning of industrial zones and major projects.

Abbad Al-Hayal, on his part, detailed the efforts of the Antiquities and Museums Authority in conducting field surveys and documenting historical sites. He emphasized the importance of the Authority's involvement in site evaluations and the provision of technical opinions before the issuance of investment project licenses, ensuring a smooth progression of investment procedures without compromising historical site preservation.
