Sana'a: A meeting held in Sana'a on Saturday discussed areas of cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and the General Authority of Zakat Office in the Capital Secretariat, as well as mechanisms for joint coordination to enhance zakat administration, raise awareness of the importance of zakat, and develop appropriate solutions that serve the public interest while safeguarding rights.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting, attended by Chamber Chairman Ali Al-Hadi and Director of the Zakat Authority Office in the Capital Secretariat Mohammed Al-Alfi, reviewed existing cooperation and ways to strengthen institutional partnership in support of merchants, zakat payers in accordance with applicable regulations and Islamic law.
Participants also discussed mechanisms to address the cases of merchants who are unable or unwilling to pay zakat by adopting practical solutions that take taxpayers' circumstances into account while ensuring zakat is collected lawfully, protecting rights, and upholding justice without unfairness.
Al-Hadi reaffirmed the Chamber's commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Zakat Authority Office to address relevant issues, stressing the importance of coordination and data exchange within the legal framework to serve the public interest and promote compliance with the zakat obligation.
For his part, Al-Alfi said the Authority operates under a clear framework for collecting and distributing zakat to its legitimate beneficiaries. He stressed that zakat collection is carried out in accordance with Islamic law and that the Authority rejects any practices that violate these principles or infringe upon the rights of zakat payers.
