Moscow: Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian President's Special Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, commented on the results of a study conducted by the German Institute for Economic Research. He stated that "the reduction in Russian gas supplies to Germany has led to a decline in its industry." According to Yemen News Agency, Dmitriev wrote on his X platform account, as reported by Sputnik News on Monday: "A survey conducted by the German Institute for Economic Research confirms a 41% decline in German industry. Industrial companies plan to cut jobs in 2026, while only 15% plan to hire more." He added: "The reduction in low-cost Russian gas supplies is the main factor behind the decline in industry." Russia has repeatedly affirmed its ability to withstand the pressure of sanctions imposed by the West several years ago, which continue to escalate. Moscow has indicated that the West lacks the courage to admit the failure of t he sanctions imposed against Russia. Western countries themselves have repeatedly expressed their view that the sanctions imposed against Russia are "ineffective." Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term Western strategy, and that the sanctions have dealt a severe blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the West's main objective is to worsen the lives of millions of people. The Council of the European Union intends to propose a measure to suspend the ban on Russian gas imports, starting from January 1, 2026, based on a proposal from the European Commission, while maintaining a transition period for existing contracts until January 1, 2028.
