Taiz:The Entisaf Organization for Women's and Children's Rights has condemned the targeting of the Motherhood and Childhood Hospital in the Al-Shamaytein District of Taiz Governorate by Saudi forces.
According to Yemen News Agency, the organization's statement highlighted that the airstrikes resulted in substantial damage to the hospital's infrastructure, medical departments, and equipment, causing panic among women, children, patients, and health workers at the facility.
The organization emphasized that attacking a hospital dedicated to motherhood and childhood services constitutes a serious breach of international humanitarian law, which mandates special protection for hospitals and medical facilities. The attack undermines the hospital's capacity to deliver essential health services, particularly for those requiring specialized care, and underscores the risks associated with assaults on health infrastructure.
The statement also noted that the incident occurred amidst an escalation of airstrikes in the Taiz Governorate, escalating the threat to civilians and public service facilities. The organization warned of the severe humanitarian and health consequences of continued attacks on health facilities and urged the international community, the United Nations, and other human rights bodies to uphold the protection of medical facilities and hold violators accountable under international law.
Additionally, the Entisaf Organization called on the World Health Organization, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and related humanitarian entities to aid in safeguarding health facilities, ensuring continued medical services. It reiterated the necessity of protecting civilians and health facilities, respecting international legal standards, and preventing future attacks on medical and civilian establishments.
