Beirut: European Commissioner for Crisis Management and Humanitarian Aid Haja Habib stated on Saturday that more than 20 percent of Lebanon's population has been forced to flee their homes as a result of the ongoing war.

According to Yemen News Agency, Habib explained that Israeli shelling and airstrikes have targeted essential infrastructure in southern Lebanon, worsening the situation. She mentioned that the European Union will continue to provide necessary support to the Lebanese people and will contribute to opening more shelters in the country as displacement numbers grow.

Habib emphasized the urgent need to support the Lebanese people and condemned the targeting of the health sector and journalists. Since March 2nd, Israeli military actions have intensified against Lebanon, affecting towns, villages, cities, and civilian infrastructure, including medical and press personnel, leading to thousands of casualties and the displacement of approximately 1.5 million Lebanese citizens.

A temporary ceasefire agreement was reached in mid-April, yet daily violations of this agreement by the Israeli military continue, further complicating the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon.
