Sana'a: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Jamal Amer has condemned the United States for what he describes as a war crime in the targeting of Ras Isa port. In a letter sent to various international leaders and organizations, Amer outlined the severe consequences of the US action, which he claims deliberately targeted the civilian oil port in Hodeida province, resulting in an environmental catastrophe.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Foreign Minister's letter detailed the aftermath of the US aggression, accusing it of violating Yemen's sovereignty and breaching international humanitarian and environmental laws. He emphasized that the attack destroyed Ras Isa Port's civilian infrastructure and led to a significant oil spill in the Red Sea, endangering marine ecosystems and local communities reliant on the sea for their livelihoods.
Minister Amer asserted the United States' international responsibility for the incident, citing violations of international treaties and customary international law. He highlighted the attack's impact on marine biodiversity and the livelihoods of thousands in the region, particularly those in the fishing industry.
The Foreign Minister called upon the United Nations and other international bodies to condemn the US actions and take decisive measures. He urged the formation of an independent investigation committee to assess the environmental and economic damages accurately.
Concluding his appeal, Minister Amer stressed the importance of an international response to prevent further violations and protect the global environment. He warned that ignoring such actions could undermine international law and threaten peace and security.
