FM Strongly Criticizes EU Conclusions on Yemen

General

Sana'a: Foreign Minister Jamal Amer strongly criticized the conclusions of the recent European Union Foreign Ministers' meeting on Yemen.

According to Yemen News Agency, Minister Amer addressed a letter to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaya Kallas, stating that the conclusions exhibit a bias and seem to adopt the narrative of the aggressor states and their allies. He argued that the situation in Yemen is a consequence of aggression and an unjust blockade.

The Foreign Minister rejected the allegations in the EU's conclusions, emphasizing that military operations in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and against the "Zionist entity" are legitimate responses to ongoing aggression and the blockade on the Gaza Strip. He framed these actions as a humanitarian, moral, and religious obligation to support the Palestinian people.

The letter highlighted that Yemeni operations are targeted and not random, focusing on vessels linked to the Zionist enemy or countries involved in aggression against Yemen. It stressed that freedom of navigation should not justify harm to women and children in Yemen and Palestine.

Minister Amer attributed the failure of UN peace efforts to the "intransigence of the aggressor states" and their dismissal of legitimate Yemeni demands. He mentioned that Washington interrupted an agreement with Riyadh regarding the roadmap to influence Sana'a's stance on Gaza events.

He reiterated Sana'a's support for a peace that respects Yemen's sovereignty and territorial integrity, stating that sustainable peace is unattainable while aggression and blockades persist. He called for international initiatives to pressure aggressors to cease hostilities, lift blockades, and withdraw forces.

Minister Amer criticized the EU's support for the "Yemeni government" and the "Presidential Leadership Council," which he views as prolonging the crisis. He accused these entities of exploiting Yemen's resources and worsening the humanitarian situation.

The letter affirmed Sana'a's rejection of EU attempts to influence Yemen's foreign positions, asserting that Yemen's policies are guided by its principles and interests. Minister Amer expressed surprise at the EU's stance while it ignores alleged war crimes in Gaza and Yemen.

He dismissed allegations of "weapons proliferation and Iran's role" as justification for aggression failures and defended Yemen's right to enhance its defenses. He urged the EU to address arms flow to aggressor states, warning that militarization efforts threaten Red Sea security.

Finally, Minister Amer called for the EU to reassess its Yemen policies, advocating for a balanced stance reflecting on-ground realities. He stressed the necessity of pressuring aggressors to end the conflict and blockades unconditionally, as the only path to a sustainable political resolution.
