Foreign Affairs Ministry Addresses International Community on Crime Targeting Hodeidah Port

Sanaa: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Abdulwahid Abu Ras sent a letter to the United Nations Secretary-General, the President of the UN Security Council, all UN member states, the European Union, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen. The letter highlighted the crime committed by the Israeli occupation entity in targeting Hodeidah Port yesterday through a series of airstrikes.

According to Yemen News Agency, the Deputy Minister noted that while the UN Security Council was holding a session to hear the periodic briefing of the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen, the Israeli entity was planning the aggression against Hodeidah Port, which was carried out on Tuesday. The Israeli attack on Hodeidah Port was described as a blatant and flagrant violation of Yemen's sovereignty, the UN Charter, international law, and international humanitarian law-particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 and its 1977 Additional Protocol, which criminalize attacks on essential civilian facilities.

The letter explained that since last July, the Israeli entity has targeted civilians and civilian infrastructure, especially Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Al-Salif ports, striking them multiple times to exacerbate the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people, after failing to achieve any military victory. It emphasized that Hodeidah Port is a lifeline for millions of Yemenis, handling about 80 percent of the country's imports of food, medicine, fuel, and essential goods. Targeting it will have severe repercussions, deepening the humanitarian crisis Yemen has endured for ten years, worsening food insecurity, and hindering the delivery of humanitarian aid.

The Deputy Minister stressed the international community's legal and moral responsibility to condemn the cowardly aggression and compel the Israeli entity to cease its attacks on Yemen. He reiterated that Israel's actions will not deter Yemen from supporting Gaza or limit its capabilities; rather, they will increase the pace of Yemen's military operations in support of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
