Najrah: The General Authority of Antiquities and Museums has officially taken control of the historic Qarada Fortress in the Najrah District of Hajjah Governorate. This development marks a significant step towards the preservation and restoration of the ancient site.
According to Yemen News Agency, the handover was formalized during a field visit attended by several key officials, including the Director of Najrah District, the head of the local branch of the Authority of Antiquities and Museums, the Deputy Director of the Land Authority branch, and the Security Director of Najrah District. The takeover was executed following a memorandum from the Governor of Hajjah, which was based on directives from the President of the Supreme Political Council. The instructions were aimed at empowering the Authority to undertake necessary restoration and preservation work on the fortress.
The Authority further explained that the initiative also seeks to address any legal issues related to the site. This includes verifying allegations against the previous beneficiary applicant concerning violations of the Antiquities Law and taking appropriate legal measures if necessary. Additionally, the measures are supported by directives from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration and Rural Development, which stress the removal of telecommunications towers from archaeological sites and prohibit any new structures or installations within these protected areas.
