Hodeidah: The Great Prophet Sports Festival kicked off on Tuesday in Hodeidah Governorate, organized by the Youth and Sports Office under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Youth, Sports, the governorate's local authority, and General Mobilization leadership, as part of celebrations marking the 1448 AH anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad's birth.
According to Yemen News Agency, the two-day festival features competitions in kickboxing, judo, and wrestling, with the participation of athletes from clubs across the governorate. The first day witnessed strong competition among athletes from Hodeidah city clubs in the three sports, amid a large crowd and an enthusiastic atmosphere that reflected the participants' high level of technical preparation.
In kickboxing, around 30 athletes competed in seven weight classes: 24, 28, 30, 34, 45, 51, and 67 kg. The athletes took part in a series of competitive bouts marked by closely matched performances and strong displays. Wrestling competitions were held in four weight classes-27, 38, 48, and 63 kg-across the junior, youth, and cadet categories, with around 24 athletes taking part.
The Judo Federation branch is participating with around 25 athletes representing the governorate's top competitors, competing across five weight classes in the junior, youth, and cadet categories. The festival is part of the sporting activities accompanying celebrations of the Prophet Muhammad's birth anniversary, providing club athletes with an opportunity to compete in individual sports and showcase their skills and talents.
The festival competitions are scheduled to conclude tomorrow, Wednesday, with an honoring ceremony for the participants and winners.
