Sana'a: The joint coordination team of the National Supreme Authority for Combating Corruption and the Ministry of Local Administration and Rural Development convened a meeting to discuss and approve a matrix of preventive measures aimed at addressing numerous imbalances within local authority units. The meeting was part of implementing directives from revolution leader Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi.
According to Yemen News Agency, the Deputy Head of the Authority, Redan Al-Mutawakel, highlighted the necessity of coordination between the Authority and the Ministry to strengthen joint cooperation. Al-Mutawakel emphasized moving beyond meetings to form field teams that can address shortcomings, ensuring success, and reinforcing preventive measures to stop corruption before it occurs. He also stressed the importance of enhancing integrity in public service to protect employees and safeguard state assets, urging public officials to perform their duties toward citizens with honesty and dedication.
Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Kamim, a member of the National Supreme Authority for Combating Corruption and team supervisor, emphasized implementing the corrective measures included in the matrix and translating them into practical programs by the Ministry and executive offices in the capital and governorates. He underscored the importance of activating legal accountability mechanisms against those responsible for harming public funds and state interests.
Dr. Yahya Al-Marani, Head of the Prevention Department at the Authority and team leader, pointed to the importance of activating internal control systems and updating mechanisms for collecting local revenues to ensure the protection of public funds. He stressed the coordination with relevant entities to ease the burden on citizens.
Deputy Minister of Local Administration and Rural Development, Ahmed Haij, affirmed the Ministry's readiness to strengthen its partnership with the Authority to implement the necessary corrective measures outlined in the matrix. He noted the Ministry's commitment to monitoring implementation progress to improve the execution of service and development plans and enhance the quality of service delivery to citizens through executive offices across various governorates.
The meeting concluded with the approval of the preventive measures matrix, addressing and reforming multiple imbalances in local authority units. It also established mechanisms for its adoption, circulation for implementation, and the initiation of field visits to monitor execution according to a scheduled plan.
