Hodeidah: The First Deputy Governor of Hodeidah, Ahmed Al-Bishri, launched today the second phase of the economic empowerment project for families affected by floods in the districts of Al-Duraihimi, Al-Marawa'a, and Zabid.
According to Yemen News Agency, the project is being implemented by the Bonyan Development Foundation under the supervision of the Supreme Committee for Emergency Response and Flood Damage. It is coordinated with the National Committee for Economic Empowerment and partners with the local authority in the governorate, the Agricultural and Fisheries Initiatives Financing Unit, the Agricultural Cooperative Union, and cooperative associations. The initiative aims to distribute 95 interest-free loans in the livestock sector to families in the affected districts.
During the launch event in Al-Duraihimi district, Deputy Al-Bishri highlighted that this project is part of a series of development initiatives in the governorate. He noted that the second phase of distributing cows to flood-affected families follows the reconstruction of many homes, thanks to collaborative efforts from various parties.
He emphasized that distributing livestock will help empower beneficiary families to regain what they lost due to the floods and improve their income levels. This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to development, particularly in achieving self-sufficiency in dairy production.
The Bonyan Development Foundation Coordinator in the governorate, Salem Al-Ahdal, explained that this phase of the project is designed to address the flood damage impacts faced by families over the past two years. He stated that 95 families will receive in-kind loans comprising cows, along with veterinary care, fodder, and technical support, which will aid in improving their economic conditions and promoting local dairy production.
The Secretary-General of the Local Council in Al-Duraihimi District, Abdullah Abukr, and the Head of the Al-Duraihimi Cooperative Association, Jaber Al-Kayal, expressed optimism about the cow distribution, viewing it as a hopeful step towards sustainably enhancing the standard of living for targeted families.
Additionally, the First Deputy Governor inspected the Al-Duraihimi Agricultural Cooperative Association's office in the Kilo 16 area. He received insights from the Association's Head about its activities and projects across various agricultural and production sectors. He also reviewed the association's veterinary clinic and its services to farmers, and visited a milk and dairy products processing laboratory, commending the association's efforts and projects in contributing to self-sufficiency and local food product localization.
