Sana'a: The office of the General Authority of Zakat in Sana'a Governorate launched on Friday the 'Support for Those Unable to Work' project, with a total cost of 268 million Yemeni riyals, to be disbursed through post offices across the governorate.
According to Yemen News Agency, the project, which comes within Ramadan charity initiatives, targets more than 4,000 households of elderly individuals unable to work who have no source of income. They are considered among the most vulnerable groups across all districts and will receive a monthly allowance in accordance with the legitimate channels of zakat distribution.
During the launch, Director of the General Authority of Zakat Office in the governorate, Abdulwahab Al-Tahif, affirmed that the project reflects the directives of the Leader of the Revolution, Abdulmalik Al-Houthi, and the Supreme Political Council to attend to the conditions of destitute elderly people and provide them with monthly assistance to ease their suffering.
He explained that the disbursement process will cover all registered elderly people unable to work, as well as patients and minors whose living conditions were assessed according to the required humanitarian intervention standards, as their situation falls within the legitimate categories of zakat beneficiaries. He noted that the project is one of the Ramadan charity initiatives through which the General Authority of Zakat seeks to support the most impoverished and vulnerable segments of society.
Al-Tahif also praised the role of the local authority in the governorate and districts for supporting the efforts of the Authority's office, its branches, and commended the cooperation of zakat payers in promptly delivering their zakat contributions.
For his part, Director of Disbursement Affairs at the Authority's office, Yahya Abu Nashtan, urged businessmen, traders, and well-off individuals to contribute to supporting and adopting such charitable projects due to their role in strengthening the values of compassion and social solidarity.
He also called on zakat payers to promptly deliver their zakat funds, enabling the General Authority of Zakat, its offices, and branches in the districts to distribute them through their legitimate channels.
