Hodeidah: The 'Today's Seed. Tomorrow's Palm' initiative for cultivating and planting date seeds was launched in Al-Sukhnah District of Hodeidah Governorate, under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources and the local authority in the governorate, with wide community participation from residents of the district.

According to Yemen News Agency, the project is being implemented by the local authority in Al-Sukhnah District in cooperation with the Al-Sukhnah Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative Society. This initiative is part of the national initiative for cultivating and planting date seeds launched at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, aimed at expanding palm cultivation and enhancing local date production.

During the launch, Al-Sukhnah District Director Mohammed Aqari emphasized the importance of moving toward agriculture and strengthening self-sufficiency. He noted that palm cultivation represents an important step to utilize local resources and achieve food security. He urged district residents to focus on agricultural lands and invest in them in ways that support the local economy.

Chairman of the Al-Sukhnah Agricultural Cooperative Society, Mohammed Maafa, explained that the initiative is part of efforts to build a resilient agricultural economy based on local production. He noted that the district possesses suitable climatic and environmental conditions for palm cultivation.

Maafa added that the association works in cooperation with the local authority and mobilization bodies to implement development and agricultural projects that enhance the role of cooperatives in supporting farmers and boosting production.

Meanwhile, the district's development coordinator, Majed Al-Ahdal, emphasized the importance of the initiative in spreading agricultural awareness among citizens. He pointed out that planting date seeds is a simple step that can have a significant future impact if all families participate.

Al-Ahdal explained that the initiative encourages every family to utilize date seeds resulting from date consumption and plant them, which over the coming years will contribute to increasing the number of palm trees and achieving self-sufficiency in date production.
