Mahweet: The General Authority for Rural Water Projects in Mahweet governorate has successfully completed the Bani Shadid water project in Bani Saad district, which will provide clean water to over 6,800 residents using a solar-powered pumping unit.
According to Yemen News Agency, the project, which cost 25 million Yemeni riyals, was funded by the Emergency Development Interventions Unit. It included the installation of a 45-kilowatt solar pumping system during its second phase. Engineer Amin al-Mahwiti, Director of the authority's branch in Mahweet, described solar-powered water projects as strategic initiatives that help reduce residents' hardship, improve health and environmental conditions, and make optimal use of sustainable energy.
Local residents have welcomed the completion of the project, noting that it provides a crucial solution to water scarcity. They view it as a reflection of government efforts to enhance basic services in remote areas. Officials have emphasized the importance of coordination between local authorities and communities to ensure the project's sustainability. The handover ceremony was attended by representatives from the authority, local councils, and community committees.
