Meeting in Sanaa Discusses Mechanism for Replacing Imported Chicken, Fish with Local Produce


Sanaa: The Acting Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, Ammar Al Karim, discussed today with representatives of frozen chicken marketing companies the arrangements for starting the fourth phase of the contract farming program. The meeting focused on discussing mechanisms for replacing frozen fish and locally produced chicken as an alternative to imported frozen chicken and fish.



According to Yemen News Agency, the attendees reviewed the mechanism for marketing frozen fish, calling on frozen chicken marketing companies to double local production, allocate a percentage of market needs for marketing frozen fish, and expand the opening of new marketing centers covering various governorates and districts. This initiative aims to provide high-quality products at reasonable prices for citizens.a



In the meeting, attended by the Deputy Ministers for Marketing, Mohsen Atef, and for Livestock, Dr. Abdul Raouf Al Shawkani, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources affirmed the interest of the revolutionary leadership and the Supreme Political Council in supporting the private sector and removing obstacles in its way. This support is expected to contribute to meeting market needs and enhancing food security.



He pointed to the ministry’s keenness to encourage national companies and expand their role in marketing local products. The minister affirmed the continued suspension of frozen chicken imports, working to reduce the feed import bill, and moving towards replacing imported products with local ones.
