Sana'a: Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates for the International Cooperation Sector ambassador Ismail al-Mutawakel met with UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen Julien Harneis to discuss the humanitarian situation following recent attacks.
According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting focused on the repercussions of the Zionist entity's targeting of the Prime Minister and members of the Government of Change and Reconstruction. Concerns were raised about crimes and violations affecting civilians and civilian infrastructure. Ambassador al-Mutawakel expressed dissatisfaction with the UN's lack of action and statements condemning these incidents, criticizing their issuance of political statements that could worsen the humanitarian crisis.
Ambassador al-Mutawakel also addressed recent statements by the UN Secretary-General, the UN Envoy to Yemen, and the Security Council, describing them as baseless and criticizing the lack of humanitarian response to the aggression in Gaza and Yemen. He stressed the UN's duty to adhere to its charter and humanitarian principles without politicizing its work.
He questioned the UN's responsibility for the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen, attributing it to the suspension of development and life-saving projects in northern governorates. The Undersecretary emphasized the need for UN neutrality and expressed the Ministry's readiness to collaborate on a joint humanitarian mechanism if the UN demonstrates genuine intentions.
In response, Resident Coordinator Julien Harneis committed to relaying the meeting's conclusions to the UN Secretary-General for further discussion on Yemen's humanitarian situation.
