Parliament’s Labor and Social Affairs Committee Continues Its Meetings

Sana'a: The Labor and Social Affairs Committee continued its meetings Sunday, chaired by Committee Head Azzam Salah. The meeting was attended by the heads of the Oil and Development Committee, Mohammed Sewar, the Services Committee, Ali al-Kaboudi, and the Education Committee, Ahmed al-Aqari. The government side was represented by the Executive Director of the Handicapped Care and Rehabilitation Fund, Ali Maghli, and the Director of Programs and Projects, Jamal al-Rajwi.

According to Yemen News Agency, the committee reviewed the decisions of the meeting of the Council's Presidium and the heads and rapporteurs of the permanent committees. The Presidium's meeting decisions included matters related to mergers and restructuring, and the outcomes of the committee's meetings with the Minister of Civil Service and Administrative Development and the Deputy Ministers of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor regarding the merger and restructuring process.

The meeting discussed general policies, operational mechanisms, and the legal and regulatory references binding the executive administration when providing services to persons with special needs. Additionally, the Fund's operational mechanisms and resource mobilization as stipulated by law were discussed.

The committee also addressed the criteria for distributing the Fund's resources among persons with special needs, institutional modernization programs for the executive administration, development of organizational structure, capacity building for employees, performance evaluation, and quality of services provided across various types and levels.

During the meeting, the committee listened to clarifications from the Fund's Executive Director, Maghli, regarding the Fund's efforts to provide services for this group and the procedures followed according to the type and nature of disabilities. The committee emphasized the need to submit a detailed report on the services provided by the Fund to persons with disabilities, particularly health, medical, and educational services.

The Committee Head stressed the importance of preparing sufficient information on persons with disabilities and the health, medical, and educational care they require. He highlighted the necessity of developing the Fund's operational mechanisms and enhancing its capacities to meet service standards, especially in light of challenges and the consequences of aggression and blockade. Furthermore, he confirmed the importance of establishing medical committees for persons with disabilities to diagnose cases and determine required care, while maintaining the independence of successful funds in accordance with their founding laws.
