Prosecution Seeks Verdict Reservation in Al-Kayyal Murder Case

General

Sana'a: The public and private prosecution on Sunday requested the court to reserve the case of the killing of Hisham al-Kayyal and his wife for judgment after presenting their evidence. During a session held at the South-East Al-Safiyah Court in Sana'a, presided over by Judge Jaber Maghles and attended by Prosecutor Abdulkhaleq al-Mahaqeri, the court heard the defense's final response to the evidence submitted.

According to Yemen News Agency, the defense challenged the credibility of a key witness and requested a field inspection of the crime scene to verify testimonies. However, the prosecution reaffirmed its evidence and confessions presented in the case file. Both public and private prosecutors called for the case to be reserved for judgment, with the private prosecution demanding the death penalty for the defendants on charges of premeditated murder.

The court also reviewed a request regarding medical care for one of the defendants and granted several defendants time to submit further responses. The case will continue in the next session to review additional motions. The defendants are accused of planning and carrying out the killing of al-Kayyal and his wife in December, after tracking them and opening fire, resulting in their deaths and injury to one of their children.
