Rainfall Forecasted Across Highlands and Coastal Areas in Yemen

General

Sana'a: The National Center of Meteorology and Early Warning has forecast partly cloudy to cloudy weather with rainfall expected across mountainous highlands and coastal areas during the next 24 hours.

According to Yemen News Agency, the center's weather bulletin indicates that conditions will be partly cloudy, becoming cloudier during the daytime. There is a chance of thunderstorms of varying intensity affecting parts of the governorates of Ibb, Dhamar, Sana'a, Amran, Hajjah, and Mahweet.

Scattered rainfall is also anticipated in parts of Sa'ada, Jawf, Raymah, and Taiz, as well as the highlands of Lahj and Abyan, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours. Meanwhile, partly cloudy conditions with possible light to moderate rainfall are forecast for parts of the Tihama coastal plain and nearby areas, in addition to parts of the Socotra Archipelago.

The center noted that winds will be light to moderate in general, becoming active along the southern section of the western coast and at the Bab al-Mandab Strait, with speeds potentially reaching up to 30 knots. In desert regions, the weather is expected to remain mostly clear with the formation of cumulonimbus clouds, while moderate winds may occasionally become stronger, stirring dust and sand.

The meteorological center warned residents in mountainous areas of possible flash floods in valleys and ravines, urging them to avoid flood paths and refrain from crossing them during and after rainfall. Drivers were also advised to exercise caution due to reduced horizontal visibility on mountainous roads and slopes caused by low clouds, fog, and rain. Fishermen and sea-goers were further warned of rough sea conditions and high waves along the southern western coasts and at the Bab al-Mandab entrance.
