Sana'a: A meeting in Sana'a governorate reviewed on Tuesday mechanisms to develop and improve the poultry sector, highlighting its role in strengthening food security.

According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting was chaired by Province Undersecretary for Services Fares Al-Kuhali and brought together officials from the social affairs, economy and industry, and agriculture sectors, along with representatives of agricultural unions and cooperatives. Discussions focused on challenges facing the poultry sector and proposed solutions through coordination between government entities, associations, and the private sector.

Participants emphasized the importance of establishing an integrated system to support local production, encourage sector growth, and enhance its contribution to food security. The proposed system aims to regulate the poultry sector-initially in the southern part of the governorate-by linking farmers directly with investors, improving marketing efficiency, ensuring product quality, and reducing random practices in slaughtering and distribution.

The meeting also discussed the potential establishment of a slaughterhouse to serve the southern and eastern sectors, with specialists assigned to study feasibility and determine a suitable location. Attendees approved launching a comprehensive survey of poultry farms and production capacities, stressing adherence to standards and weight-based sales to stabilize the market.

Al-Kuhali highlighted the need to update data on poultry farms, strengthen field monitoring, and support the sector, noting its key role in providing white meat and eggs, as well as creating employment opportunities for thousands of workers.
