Sana'a: A number of farmers from Bani Amr village in Al-Haymah Al-Dakhiliyah District, Sana'a Governorate, have embarked on a self-initiative to plant 3,000 coffee seedlings across several areas. This endeavor is being coordinated with the Agriculture Office and the Bani Amr Development Association.
According to Yemen News Agency, the initiative's primary objectives are to expand coffee cultivation, boost local production, achieve self-sufficiency, and contribute to improving income levels and living stability for the farmers involved. The farmers emphasized that this initiative also aims to reinforce community awareness about the significance of cultivating valuable cash crops like coffee, which plays a crucial role in supplying the state's public treasury with foreign currency through exports to various countries globally.
The farmers have expressed their commitment to continuing their efforts in expanding coffee cultivation while simultaneously working to reduce the prevalence of the khat tree, with an ultimate goal of its eventual elimination. They have called on relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Agriculture and associated organizations, to support and encourage such initiatives. They highlighted the need for providing coffee seedlings, ensuring their quality, offering technical guidance to farmers, and promoting cultivation efforts.
Moreover, the farmers urged support in marketing the coffee products and emphasized the importance of constructing dams and water barriers. These measures are essential for utilizing rainwater and feeding springs and wells, addressing the persistent issue of water scarcity in the region.
