Hodeida: A training course on pastry and confectionery making and the preparation and management of small businesses began in Hodeida governorate on Saturday. The course is being organized by the governorate branch of the National Women's Committee in partnership with the Fund for the Care and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities, the Association for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Deaf, and the "I Am for My Country" Foundation.
According to Yemen News Agency, the five-day course aims to provide 35 women with disabilities with practical skills in making pastries and confectionery and introduce them to the fundamentals of preparing and managing income-generating businesses, thereby enhancing their productive capacities and opening opportunities for them to establish small enterprises. The course covers topics including small-business planning, determining capital requirements and objectives, studying partners and the market, methods of promoting products, and managing operating costs and pre-operating expenses. These topics are intended to help participants turn their acquired skills into viable and implementable productive businesses.
At the opening of the course, Hodeida undersecretary for services affairs Mohammed Halisi stressed the importance of training and rehabilitating persons with disabilities and equipping them with skills that enable them to enter the production and labor market. He noted that training in vocational fields and project management provides practical opportunities to make use of their capabilities and turn their skills into sources of income for families. He underscored the importance of concerted efforts by official bodies, associations, and relevant organizations to expand training and economic empowerment programs and provide a suitable environment for participants to launch small businesses based on sound administrative and financial principles.
For her part, Director of the governorate branch of the National Women's Committee Fairouz Al-Waisi explained that the course is part of the committee's efforts to promote the economic empowerment of women with disabilities and provide training opportunities that enable them to acquire vocational and productive skills that can serve as a foundation for establishing income-generating businesses. She highlighted the importance of leveraging such programs to ease the cost-of-living burdens on families and encourage participants to use their acquired skills to establish home-based productive businesses that contribute to improving household income and strengthening self-reliance.
Meanwhile, Director of the Fund for the Care and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities in the governorate Waleed Al-Shawafi said that training and rehabilitating persons with disabilities helps harness their capabilities and energies in productive fields and opens practical opportunities for them to secure stable sources of income. He pointed out that home-based businesses with limited start-up costs provide a suitable avenue for participants to engage in economic activity, contributing to reducing unemployment, improving living conditions, and strengthening self-sufficiency.
