Agriculture & Fisheries Ministry Extends Sea Cucumber Ban in Yemen

Sana'a: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has approved an extension of the ban on catching, possessing, and trading sea cucumber in the marine waters of the Republic of Yemen, as part of efforts to protect marine life and preserve fish stocks.

According to Yemen News Agency, the ministry explained that the extension includes a ban on catching all types of sea cucumber for four years, in addition to prohibiting the possession, purchase, transport, storage, or export of this marine species, as well as all related activities during the ban period.

The ministry affirmed that the General Authority for Fisheries in the Red Sea and relevant bodies will oversee the implementation of the decision and take the necessary legal measures against violators, in order to ensure the protection and sustainability of marine resources.

The extension decision also stipulates that the General Authority for Marine Sciences and Aquatic Life Research will conduct scientific studies to determine the locations and environmental status of sea cucumber populations, contributing to the development of appropriate policies to preserve this important marine resource.

The ministry stressed the importance of fishermen and all workers in the fisheries sector complying with the provisions of the decision, in a way that helps protect the marine environment and ensure the sustainability of fish resources for future generations.
