Al-Aydarous Highlights National Responsibility in Preserving Yemen’s Historical Cities

San'a: The Speaker of the Shura Council, Mohammed Hussein Al-Aydarous, reviewed a joint meeting conducted by the Council's Committee for Media, Culture, Youth, and Sports alongside the Head of the General Authority for the Preservation of Historical Cities. During the meeting, the Speaker emphasized the vital role played by the General Authority in maintaining Yemen's historical cities, which are considered a significant part of human heritage.

According to Yemen News Agency, Al-Aydarous underscored that safeguarding these historical cities is a national duty that demands collaborative efforts from all sectors. He pointed out the necessity for providing adequate resources to the Authority to facilitate its operations and program implementations. Furthermore, Al-Aydarous highlighted the significance of boosting coordination between the Authority and the Council's Media and Culture Committee. This collaboration aims to ensure the protection of Yemen's historical and cultural identity, with recommendations to be forwarded to the relevant authorities.

During the meeting, which was attended by the Deputy Head of the Committee, Dr. Hizam Al-Asad, committee members, and Abdul Wahab Al-Mahdi, the Head of the General Authority, discussions were held regarding the current status of historical cities listed on the World Heritage List. The meeting also addressed the challenges faced by the Authority in preserving the unique architectural features of these cities amidst prevailing conditions.
