Al hodeidah: Director General of the Yemeni Authority for Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control Abdullah Al-Atifi visited a number of large, medium-sized, and small mills in Al Hodeidah Governorate. Al-Atifi reviewed the level of compliance with the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Investment's decision setting the extraction rate of white flour produced by mills at 80 percent. The visit was conducted as part of the Authority's regulatory and technical duties to verify implementation of the decision in accordance with approved standard specifications.
According to Yemen News Agency, the visit covered a number of mills with varying production capacities, where Al-Atifi reviewed the different stages of flour production, extraction mechanisms, technical processes, and compliance with the specified extraction rate. He also visited bread production facilities, bakeries, and their affiliated sales outlets to examine the nature of products on display and assess their compliance with approved requirements and standards.
Al-Atifi affirmed that the visits to mills, bread production facilities, bakeries, and sales outlets are part of the Authority's regulatory and technical role in implementing the decision on the flour extraction rate. He said the measures aim to ensure a unified level of compliance among various establishments, verify the quality and safety of locally produced flour, and its conformity with approved standard specifications.
He noted that the Authority will continue conducting field inspections of mills, bread production facilities, bakeries, and sales outlets, as well as carrying out inspections, collecting samples, and subjecting them to the necessary laboratory tests to verify compliance with specifications and the prescribed extraction rate. Legal measures will be taken against violators in accordance with applicable regulations.
The Director General pointed out that implementation of the decision is not limited to regulatory aspects, but also includes awareness-raising, guidance, and direct coordination with mill owners, bakeries, oven operators, and producers. These efforts, he said, will contribute to ensuring the proper implementation of the decision, maximizing the use of wheat grains, improving flour quality, and enhancing its nutritional value in a manner that safeguards consumers' health and safety.
He also affirmed that the Authority will continue monitoring implementation of the decision in coordination with the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Investment, its offices, and other relevant entities, strengthening oversight of the flour production and distribution chain, and ensuring that consumers receive products that comply with approved specifications and requirements.
