Maqbana: The Acting Governor of Taiz, Ahmed Al-Masawi, inaugurated the 76th free medical camp focused on eye surgery and cataract removal at Hijda Rural Hospital in Maqbana district.
According to Yemen News Agency, the camp is organized by the Health Care Association for Affected Communities (ACHCA) in collaboration with the Governorate Health Office and is funded by the Governorate Zakat Authority Office. The initiative will last for four days and aims to provide examinations and perform over 300 cataract removal surgeries for residents of Maqbana and nearby districts such as Shar'ab Al-Rawnah, Shar'ab Al-Salam, Jabal Habashi, and At-Ta'iziyah.
During the inauguration ceremony, attended by the First Deputy Governor Mohammed Al-Khalidi, Acting Governor Al-Masawi highlighted the significance of the camp in enhancing medical and therapeutic services in the region. He attributed the initiative to directives from the Leader of the Revolution, Sayyed Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, and the President of the Supreme Political Council. Al-Masawi called for coordinated efforts between the Ministry of Health and the General Authority for Zakat to improve health services in the governorate, particularly in the most underserved areas.
Al-Masawi also underscored the importance of such projects in utilizing Zakat funds effectively, encouraging businessmen and traders to contribute through official channels to support vulnerable groups. The event was attended by notable figures including Deputy Governor Fouad Ha'il Sinan, Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Khalid, and Dr. Mohammed Al-Azi, Director of the Governorate Health Office. Shawqi Maghlas, Director of the Zakat Authority Office, emphasized the selection of Maqbana district due to its pressing healthcare needs and the project's goal to provide free medical care to impoverished families in remote areas.
Dr. Hassan Al-Tam, Director of Health Affairs at the Zakat Authority, highlighted that the camp coincides with the upcoming anniversary of the Noble Prophet's birth and aligns with leadership directives aimed at assisting the most needy populations. He mentioned that the Authority supports a range of strategic medical projects, including eye camps, kidney transplants, and other therapeutic assistance.
Dr. Waddah Abdulrahman, Health Director of Maqbana district, expressed appreciation for the support from the General Authority for Zakat and the Governorate Health Office. He confirmed the preparedness of the medical staff and hospital facilities to accommodate patients for examinations and surgeries from various districts and surrounding areas.
