Sana'a: Minister of Culture and Tourism, Dr. Ali Al-Yafie, inspected several historic houses in Old Sana'a that were damaged by recent rainfall. The minister was briefed by Abdulwahab Al-Mahdi, Chairman of the General Authority for the Preservation of Cities and Historic Landmarks, on ongoing efforts to preserve the city, restore affected houses, and address the requirements for safeguarding its cultural and historical heritage.
According to Yemen News Agency, during the visit, Minister Al-Yafie reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to supporting efforts to preserve Old Sana'a and all historic cities and landmarks, given their great historical and cultural significance to Yemen. He urged the authority to expedite solutions for repairing damaged houses and to restore other buildings in need of maintenance to prevent further deterioration.
He also stressed the importance of developing a comprehensive plan for long-term restoration of houses requiring repairs in Old Sana'a, in coordination with the local authorities in the capital. The minister emphasized the need for collective efforts to preserve the city, describing Old Sana'a as a jewel of civilization, heritage, and history, and a beacon that has long attracted scholars, researchers, and students of knowledge.
