HR Ministry Concludes Workshop on Intel Humanitarian Law in Sana’a

Sana'a: A five-day specialized workshop on international humanitarian law (IHL) concluded on Thursday in the capital Sana'a, organized by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

According to Yemen News Agency, the workshop trained 30 participants from the Ministry, Judicial Inspection Authority, Public Prosecution, and the National Human Rights Commission on the principles, concepts, and implementation mechanisms of IHL and its relation to national laws.

At the closing session, Judge Ahmed al-Kuhlani, Undersecretary for Financial and Administrative Affairs at the Ministry, highlighted the importance of strengthening awareness and application of IHL in judicial and human rights work to protect human dignity. ICRC Deputy Head of Mission in Yemen, Yves Van Lo, emphasized the key role of judges and prosecutors in enforcing humanitarian law and reaffirmed the ICRC's commitment to continued support and partnership.

The workshop addressed the development of IHL, its relationship with international human rights law, accountability for violations, protection of civilians during conflicts, and harmonizing international legal frameworks with national legislation. Certificates were distributed to participants at the conclusion of the event.
