Specialized Criminal Division Reserves Verdict in Espionage Case of Emad Shayea

General

Sana'a: The Specialized Criminal Division in the capital reserved its verdict in the case of Emad Shayea, accused of espionage for the enemy, for a future session. The session was presided over by Judge Abdullah al-Najjar, with Judges Hussein al-Azzi and Mohammed Muflih as members, and included Prosecutor Ali al-Julahi and the division's secretary, Abdul Salam Abbad. During the session, the division heard the observations of the prosecution and the defense regarding the case.

According to Yemen News Agency, the division had previously allowed Emad Shayea, accused of being part of a spy network affiliated with American, Israeli, and Saudi intelligence, the opportunity to respond to a medical report concerning his health condition. This case is part of a larger network, with previous rulings last January convicting 14 defendants for espionage activities on behalf of hostile states during the period 2024-2025.

The indictment details that the espionage activities involved providing sensitive political, military, and security information to the enemy. It also included strategic locations and facilities, recruiting citizens, and planting surveillance equipment in exchange for money. These actions have reportedly led to attacks on military and civilian sites, resulting in the deaths of hundreds and significant destruction of infrastructure.
