Sana'a: The Yemeni Authority for Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control has launched on Sunday an awareness and guidance campaign targeting traders and consumers to promote awareness of standards, metrology requirements, technical regulations, and proper practices for handling, displaying and storing products.
According to Yemen News Agency, the campaign includes awareness messages disseminated through media platforms and outlets on product safety and quality, consumer rights, and traders' obligations. It emphasizes the importance of reading product labels and verifying production and expiry dates, country of origin, ingredients, and instructions. Additionally, it warns of the risks posed by non-compliant or unidentified products and urges citizens to report violations through the authority's official channels.
The authority's director, Abdullah Al-Atifi, stated that the campaign is part of efforts to strengthen the authority's preventive and awareness-raising role alongside its regulatory duties. He highlighted that consumer protection is a shared responsibility requiring coordinated efforts among the authority, relevant bodies, traders, citizens, and the media.
Director Al-Atifi also urged traders to comply with approved standards and requirements, and encouraged consumers to remain vigilant and verify product information, source, and validity. Meanwhile, Media Center Director Ibrahim Al-Durra mentioned that the campaign represents an ongoing media and awareness initiative that will rely on producing and publishing infographics, short videos, awareness spots, and messages through the authority's official platforms, while also utilizing national media outlets to broaden its reach.
Al-Durra called on media organizations, activists, influencers, and citizens to contribute to disseminating the campaign's messages and promoting a culture of quality and safe consumption.
