Sana'a: The Executive Director of the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit in the Capital Secretariat, Engineer Abdulmalik Al-Ansi, confirmed that the unit has financed 63 projects and initiatives through the local authority in the Capital Secretariat, with a total cost exceeding six billion and 172 million riyals, achieving an implementation rate of 66 percent.
According to Yemen News Agency, Al-Ansi explained that the unit adopted a strategy for 2022-2030, aligned with the National Vision for Building the Modern State. This strategy emphasizes local production as vital for Yemen's future, underlining the importance of land ownership and cultivation in national decision-making and dignity. The unit is committed to supporting farmers, productive families, and young innovators in agriculture and fisheries.
The unit was established under Presidential Decree No. (59) of 2021 to support Yemen's agricultural and fisheries sectors amid challenging circumstances. Its creation addressed the need for a national entity capable of leading transformation within the framework of the National Vision for Building the Modern Yemeni State. The unit views agriculture as essential for food security and national sovereignty, aiming to transition Yemen from dependency on imports to a productive nation.
The unit's strategic vision focuses on economic and social development, sustainable growth in agriculture and fisheries, self-sufficiency, and poverty reduction. It has formed partnerships with various entities to ensure sustainable development, enhance food security, and promote innovative financing mechanisms. The unit's plans include establishing cooperative associations, training community leaders, supporting economic empowerment, and building infrastructure to support farmers and livestock breeders.
The comprehensive strategy for 2022-2030 aims to enhance agriculture's contribution to GDP, ensure economic impact sustainability, develop value chains, and improve agriculture marketing and services. The strategy also focuses on human capital investment, modern technology promotion, and financial sustainability through operational efficiency and local content enhancement.
In terms of achievements, the unit has made significant progress in urban community building, capacity development, economic empowerment, marketing, and livestock sector initiatives. It has established cooperative associations, conducted training sessions, and organized agricultural product festivals for marketing and promotion. The unit has also rehabilitated slaughterhouses and expanded educational resources at veterinary and agriculture faculties.
The unit's efforts in agriculture and fisheries have included setting up fish selling points, supporting fisheries marketing, and creating job opportunities. Institutional and administrative reforms have been implemented, alongside projects under broader community-building efforts in collaboration with the Bonyan Development Foundation.
Al-Ansi concluded by emphasizing Yemen's potential for achieving self-sufficiency and becoming a producer and exporter of agricultural and fisheries resources. The unit remains committed to supporting national leadership and its vision for a prosperous and independent Yemen, aiming for continued progress and national empowerment.
