Yemen: Yemen's Ministry of Youth and Sports held a press conference on Tuesday highlighting the humanitarian and economic consequences of attacks by the Saudi-led aggression coalition and its allies on youth and sports facilities across Yemen.
According to Yemen News Agency, a ministry statement read by Deputy Minister Nabih Nasser detailed that the aggressive attacks targeted youth and sports facilities in 15 provinces, destroying nearly 115 facilities and causing direct material losses estimated at more than $1 billion.
The statement mentioned that the destruction also deprived the Youth and Sports Welfare Fund of approximately $1.5 billion in revenues and affected around 1.05 million people by limiting access to sports, training, education, and community services.
It reported that 772,000 people were directly affected in the youth and sports sectors, including 248,000 athletes, 392,000 students, and 96,000 university students and athletes.
The ministry's statement also noted that 48,000 workers lost their main sources of income, including engineers, construction workers, maintenance and security staff, coaches, referees, administrators, and other sports-related workers.
It further added that around 230,000 people were affected in community, humanitarian, and development services, including youth development programs, social care, scouting activities, and sports healthcare.
The statement condemned systematic attacks on the sector, stating that they had harmed the present and future of entire generations, and held the Saudi-led aggression and its allies legally and morally responsible for the consequences.
