Approval of Economic Empowerment Projects in Shu’ub District, Capital Secretariat

Sana'a: A meeting held in the Capital Secretariat and chaired by Deputy Head of the Development Team, Hamoud Al-Naqib, approved development projects in Shu'ub District as a pioneering model for economic empowerment. According to Yemen News Agency, the meeting, attended by Director of the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects Financing Unit in the Secretariat, Abdullah Sharaf Al-Din, his deputy Samir Hamza, Dean of the Veterinary Institute Hussein Al-Adhib, and Chairman of Shu'ub Multi-Purpose Cooperative Association Mohammed Al-Washah, discussed a project for breeding and distributing local chickens. Participants also approved completing procedures for a project to purchase ten cows for the Veterinary Institute to support the dairy value chain, as well as finalizing the hydroponic farming project at the institute. In addition, they endorsed a poultry distribution project targeting beneficiary families through a loan system, with repayment to be made 'in kind' through replacement chickens, ensuring the project 's sustainability and expansion. The meeting further approved designating the Veterinary Institute's facilities as main incubators for breeding and reproduction, benefiting from specialized staff to improve breeds and ensure production quality. Part of the project will also be allocated as a practical training component for institute students to ensure the graduation of field-qualified cadres. Al-Naqib and Sharaf Al-Din explained that these projects and practical steps are being implemented in line with the directives of the Secretariat leadership to support the livestock production sector, promote economic empowerment, activate the role of technical institutes and development associations in transforming consumer families into productive ones. They affirmed that the initiative aims to build an integrated system starting with qualifying productive families through the Shu'ub Association, under the supervision of the Veterinary Institute, to ensure the success of empowerment projects. They also noted that the Veterinary Institute is not merely an educational body, but a development partner providing scientific expertise to the Secretariat's financing unit projects. The success of the Shu'ub development model, they added, is expected to have wide impact and be replicated across other districts in the Capital Secretariat.
