Sana'a: The Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance Council officially approved on Sunday the framework document for the Medicine and Surgery program during a workshop held, aimed at unifying curricula across Yemeni universities and enhancing the quality of higher education.
According to Yemen News Agency, the workshop, organized in the capital Sana'a, brought together Minister of Education and Higher Education Hassan al-Sa'adi, Deputy Minister Dr. Hatem al-Duais, Council Chairman Dr. Adel al-Matari, and representatives from Yemeni universities.
Minister al-Sa'adi emphasized the importance of realism in implementing the framework, urging universities to submit feedback within a week to refine the unified curricula, which have already been enacted by ministerial decree. Al-Duais highlighted the need to incorporate universities' observations to strengthen educational outcomes.
Council Chairman al-Matari described the framework as a starting point for standardizing other academic programs, while Sana'a University Rector Dr. Mohammed al-Bukhaiti praised the council's efforts to accelerate educational reform.
Dr. Abdulrahman al-Haifi, a member of the scientific committee, presented the document's key components, including program objectives, alignment of intended learning outcomes, and categories of competencies: knowledge and understanding, intellectual skills, practical and professional skills, as well as transferable general skills.
With this approval, Yemeni universities enter a new phase of academic development, aligning medical education with international standards while adapting to local conditions.
